There is a rawness to this album which hits you from the off. The opening track Here Come the Rome Plows hits hard with harsh vocals reminiscent of early Hundred Reasons and Refused with a bit of Funeral for a Friend thrown in for good measure.
The guitar feels chaotic but purposeful initially and they serve the song well. The album avoids showmanship and virtuosity leaving the feelings of indulgence behind.
There are several longer songs on this album. Some clocking in at over 9 minutes, again leaving indulgence behind with the songs going where they need to go and taking the listener along for the ride. They excel at building tension with quieter passages before heavier moments providing release. This space and tension defines the album.
The raw production reinforces the emotional impact of the album.
This was a great first listen which left me wanting immediately to go back to track 1 to see what I missed. A perfect example of a Seed record.
